Location
Classes will be at the Central Library in Newcastle. I use this space as an independent tutor.
More precisely, classes will be at one of the tables in the open areas in the library. As tables cannot be booked in advance, one will be found on the day.
To get the best choice of table, it's recommended to book the earliest slot of the day (10am).
The meeting point for dropping off / collecting tutees will be by the entrance on the 2nd floor (by the café).
Home-tutoring may be an option, at each tutor's discretion. Tutors may require an additional fee for travel time, which would be agreed in advance of any booking. In the event of tutoring taking place in a student's home, a parent or responsible adult MUST remain at home throughout the lesson, and tuition must take place in a shared living space (e.g. kitchen / living room).
Session Duration
Lessons are scheduled so that the tutor and tutee will return to the meeting point at the scheduled end of the session.
Safeguarding Minors
All tutors have passed enhanced DBS checks for the appropriate age-group(s) (minors/adults) before being accepted onto this site.
When minors are being taught, all communications about booking, etc., must be done via a parent or guardian.
The parent or guardian must drop off and collect tutees from the venue, and is welcome to stay nearby during classes if he / she chooses.
Parents and guardians are asked to collect students promptly at the agreed finishing time.
Although time is allowed between appointments, this is intended for lesson preparation, administration and occasional overruns. It should not be assumed that students can remain beyond their scheduled session.
If collection is more than 10 minutes late without prior agreement, an additional charge may apply.
Where repeated late collection occurs, the tutor reserves the right to review or terminate future bookings.
Payments
All prices are listed on tutors' offer pages; payments should be made directly to the tutor, in advance via BACS, or in cash on arrival before lessons start.
Lesson fees may be revised from time to time. However, once a tutee's first lesson has been booked, the agreed lesson fee will remain unchanged for a minimum of three calendar months from the date of that booking. Any subsequent change to lesson fees will be notified in advance.
Cancellations
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson. Where less than 24 hours' notice is given, the full lesson fee remains payable, as it is unlikely that the lesson slot can be reallocated at such short notice.
Events Beyond the Tutor's Reasonable Control
The tutor shall not be liable for any failure or delay in providing a lesson where this is caused by circumstances beyond the tutor's reasonable control, including (but not limited to) illness, family emergency, severe weather, disruption to transport, or the closure or unavailability of the agreed teaching venue.
In such circumstances, the tutor will give as much notice as possible and will offer either a replacement lesson at a mutually convenient time or a full refund for any lesson that cannot be provided.
